Video: Can the Blue Wave Deliver a Green New Deal?

A conversation with CHRISTOPHER D. COOK, author and award-winning investigative journalist

Just one week after her stunning election to Congress, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez joined 200 young people for a protest at Nancy Pelosi’s Capitol Hill office. Their demand? Create a select committee charged with developing a “Green New Deal.”

The select committee would be charged with developing a long range plan to create green jobs through infrastructure projects while at the same time drastically reducing green house gas emissions and curbing inequality.

Excerpt from Christopher D. Cook’s recent article at The Nation. “It’s an ambitious plan and an inspiring one, even as questions abound: What exactly would this Green New Deal look like? Will Democrats and their leadership make this blend of environmental salvation and economic justice a top priority and lend it all their political will? Or will they remain far behind the climate-change curve, soft-pedaling moderate reforms? And even if they push it forward, what’s Plan B when the Republicans stifle it in the Senate?”
