ALL Out to Support A Regional Increase in the Minimum Wage!
Palo Alto City Council to Vote Monday on Local Increase, with Emphasis on a Region-wide Raise
Palo Alto City Council Meeting
Monday, August 24, 7:00 pm
Palo Alto City Hall
250 Hamilton Avenue, Palo Alto
Palo Alto City Council will vote on Monday evening on whether or not to increase Palo Alto’s minimum wage to $11.00 per hour, beginning 1/1/16. Passage of the ordinance is expected but shouldn’t be assumed. But the important part of Monday’s meeting will be something they aren’t voting on yet — coordinating with other local cities to increase the minimum wage regionally to $15 per hour by 2018.
Read this Palo Alto weekly article which has excellent background to Monday’s important meeting.
The city of Palo Alto is still requesting public input on the minimum wage increase. Palo Alto residents should submit online comments to the City Council before Monday’smeeting or send email directly to the council members by using city.council@cityofpaloalto.
Since the regional approach is gaining steam, it would be a boost for all supporters of an increase in the minimum wage to attend Monday’s meeting and demonstrate your support. PPJC activists will be there with signs and banners for you to hold.
